My path to becoming a wedding painter in Hawaiʻi
For as long as I can remember, I have been making art. I come from a family of artists and grew up surrounded by creativity. After graduating university in 2014, I moved to Honduras to teach — and completely fell in love with travelling and exploring life abroad. Over the following years I lived in and travelled to countries across the globe, always with art as part of my life. In 2022, while working as a non-profit leader in Anchorage, Alaska, I began drawing and painting again in the evenings. The dramatic Alaskan landscape reignited a desire to create that I hadn't felt in years. I started taking commissions, building a portfolio, and quietly building toward an art career. Moving to Maui changed everything. The islands — the colour of the water, the volcanic landscapes, the golden-hour light — inspired me in a way nowhere else had. It was here, in Hawaiʻi, that I painted my first destination wedding in 2025. Standing at my easel as a couple exchanged vows at a Maui venue, painting their ceremony in real time, I knew this was exactly what I was meant to do.

When I'm not painting destination weddings across Hawaiʻi and the world, my studio work includes beloved pet portraits, children's portraits, and Maui landscape paintings inspired by the islands. I'm Aubrey, a Maui-based wedding painter originally from South Carolina — and one of the lucky few who gets to call the Hawaiian Islands home and workplace at once. Being a live wedding artist means I spend my days travelling to some of the world's most beautiful venues, canvas in tow, painting couples on the most meaningful day of their lives.
What I do — live wedding painting on-site, in real time
At your ceremony or reception, I set up my easel and begin painting your scene as it unfolds. Your guests watch the live wedding painting come to life in real time — it becomes one of the most talked-about moments of the evening. By the end of the night, you have a finished canvas capturing the light, the emotion, and the atmosphere of your day. Back in my studio, I add finishing touches so the final piece is heirloom-quality — something you'll hang in your home for generations.
My painting style
I specialize in relatively realistic portraits and landscapes — paintings that look like you and feel like your day. My work captures the details that matter: the fall of your dress, the expression on your face at the altar, the light filtering through the trees at your Maui venue. Each live wedding painting is created live during your event and refined in my studio — part performance art, part heirloom portrait.
When the easel is packed away
Outside of painting, I am incredibly grateful for all of the love in my life — my partner, and my very large and wonderful family. You'll usually find me exploring Maui by motorcycle, taking care of our English Bulldog Easy, or planning the next adventure abroad. Together, we're building toward our entrepreneurial dreams — one painting at a time
